Your Favorite Couch: Replace or Reupholster?

If your favorite couch’s upholster is already worn out; then you have two options available. It is either you let go of your favorite couch and buy a new one, or you can reinvent the look of your old couch with a more contemporary upholstery fabric. You must carefully weigh the options before coming up with a decision, consider answering these questions:

Are you happy with the style of your couch? If you are then you may want to consider reupholstering instead of buying a new one. However, your old couch may still look outdated even after you have changed its cover. Your couch should complement the theme and style of your home.

Are the cushions sagging and worn out? Is the couch frame still in good condition? If the cushions are sagging, changing its upholstery fabric will not help restore its function. The frame on the other hand should not be broken or dried out; if it is, then you should have it replaced.

Are you going to hire a professional to reupholster or is it DIY? Sometimes, hiring a professional to do it would cost a lot of money, but if your couch has a simple and straight line design, then you can actually consider DIY.

If the couch has a sentimental value for you, then make sure that you maintain its good condition so that your option is limited to reupholstering. But if your couch has seen the better days and can no longer be repaired, then maybe it is time that you buy a new one.
