Foods That Will Help Lower Cholesterol

A healthy heart is almost synonymous to good health. But to have a healthy heart means that you need to start eating healthy too. If you have been experiencing chest pains, and your most recent holter test proved that there are irregularities in your heartbeat. One of the possible culprits for this problem could be the unhealthy cholesterol levels. So you need to examine your diet and start eating foods that will help you lower cholesterol. There are several foods include:

  • Almonds –they are rich in unsaturated fats that will lower LDL or bad cholesterol in your body and will increase HDL or the good cholesterol too.
  • Orange juice – most of these juices are rich in compound known as phytosterols which are actually plant-derived cholesterol. Daily consumption of 8-ounce glass of orange juice will reduce the harmful cholesterol levels in the body.
  • Oatmeal – start your day right by eating a bowl of warm oatmeal. This is a good source of soluble fiber which will help prevent the body from absorbing bad cholesterol.
  • Steamed Asparagus – veggies are always considered as healthy foods especially if they are steamed.  When veggies are steamed it will bind the bile acids and your liver will no longer need to use LDL cholesterol to produce bile.
  • Olive oil – this oil is rich in monounsaturated fats that will reduce bad cholesterol. It is also rich in phenolics, a substance that reduce blood clotting.
