Growing up, I often associated politics with government institutions, events and people I see on the prime-time news cast. I defined it as the manner in which people maneuver their actions to convey their points or interests to others. As I gained more experience, I learned that politics is found in almost every section of society. It is, in my opinion a prerequisite in order to function well within the norms of society.
They say “In government, there are no permanent friends… only permanent interests“. I think this holds true in any social group or gathering. There will always be labels within groups, which we can see as early as High school; maybe even grade school. I guess this is brought about the very human need to stand out and be heard. There is strength in numbers as they say, though at the end of the day people will always go their separate ways towards their individual goals.
My observation is that people will always cling to people with similar interest and who would reinforce their beliefs or lack of it. While the rest would be dispensable…something like “friend kita pero mas friend ko sya, pero BFF’s kami ni…“. In todays society the word friend just keeps getting complicated by the day. Which in turn complicates the task of actually having real friends; if such a thing even exists today
The more experienced and learned I become, the less reactive I become towards politics. The burden of understanding falls on the people who are knowledgeable in life; people who know what really matters to them, and where public opinion ranks least in their list of concerns. Though I am pragmatic, and I firmly believe in following the path of least resistance to maximize time and resources. This in turn requires politicking your way into certain situations.
So in the even, despite my gripes I am slave to my own devices. Similar to being stuck between a rock and a hard place.
