Since I held the steering wheel of my Uncle Sonnie’s jeep back when I was 5, I’ve long aspired to driving and owning a vehicle. But due too my eye condition (Retinitis Pigmentosa) most if not all people I knew were against the idea. Needless to say, I was met with strong opposition and snide remarks about the idea; much less support. Never the less being as stubborn as I am, I persevered and went about my business.
Fast forward 2+ decades to the present, and I am now able to buy myself a used car. My eyesight wasn’t as good as it used to be, but I can still function and drive at day time,;even though most people say otherwise. I have no aspirations of driving fast, I just want to experience the freedom of driving… And I will be damned before anybody tells me I can’t.
My eyesight can (will) get much better in the future thanks to break-throughs in stem cell research… Or worse case, I may go blind. But as long as I can do something about it, I will. I believe it’s the small things in life that count the most at the end of the day. I may be stubborn and very impatient, but life is just too short to take your sweet time sitting on your ass, rationalizing to yourself to procrastinate.
It may be a decade too late on my schedule, but I still achieved one of my life goals… A big shout out to all the people who constantly under-estimate me!
Huli man dumating, nakapag-maneho parin!
