PS Bank Prepaid Credit Card

I applied for a Prepaid credit card (MasterCard) yesterday from PS Bank. It’s a new product which works similarly to Union Banks EON card only better! All you need are 2 valid ID’s and the initial 500PHP deposit. I just tried it on iTunes and bought 2 apps (TextTwist 2 and BeJeweled 2) for 89PHP (2USD)

Here’s why I prefer the new prepaid (MasterCard) credit card from PS Bank over its competitors

  1. You get the card the same day you apply
  2. There’s NO maintaining balance and annual fee!
  3. the card expires in 5 years
  4. Better online banking service compared to Union Bank and the like.
  5. BancNet affiliated, uses 6 digit pins compared to 4 digits for MegaLink
  6. It also acts as a normal ATM/saving account

Here are some things to note though if you plan on getting one.

  1. There is a loading fee of 10PHP (for each deposit)
  2. When accessing it on the ATM You’ll need to choose Checking -> Current
  3. Like most debit/repaid cards you’ll need to have balance in it to add it as Credit Card on services like iTunes.

If there’s any other information you know regarding this new service, feel free to share.

Yup I was able to. Maybe your card should have balance before adding it. I had a similar issue with iTunes. They wouldn’t accept my PS Bank debit card until I deposited cash into it.

Hi Mike. I may have missed it during my search but do you have any posts on how this card is when you linked it to Paypal? I’m interested in getting on as I’ve had a bad experience with EON and I prefer a prepaid card with no annual fees. Thanks!

Well I was able to add it a bank account but not as a creditcard. You can read about my experience with adding it as a creditcard in this post: http://journal.mikemamaril.com/2011/01/08/ps-bank-prepared-mastercard-fail/

How did you add it as a bank account? what is the paypal bank code for PS Bank?

I used the PSBank SWIFT code PHSBPHMM along with my account number (not my card number) and it went in. Though I removed it soon after.

The more I use this product the more disappointed I get.

I tried to add PSBank’s debit card but the card can’t be confirmed. It seems that it can’t be accepted.

Hello! I just want to ask if you could use a credit card issued in the US to load money on it. Because my brother is trying to find a cost effective alternative for sending money to me. And if it is possible how much would the charges be?
Please answer my question. Thank you.

No you can’t, you can only load it view transfering funds form you rPS Bank account or depositing money into the prepaid card. Never the less I wouldn’t recommend using it, right now it’s close to useless.

I Think the most cost effective way to send money from US to the Phil is direct bank deposit. just give your brother you account number and your banks SWIFT code.

Hello. Can I use this card for shopping? Let’s say like I’d purchase something in SM Department Store?

Supposedly you can, but based on other people who commented on my other posts, they are very limited. I for one only tested this for online transactions like iTunes, Amazon and the like, which don’t work anymore.

hi mike!
just want to clarify if I understand this correctly…
you mean that this psbank MasterCard doesn’t work for iTunes anymore? :(
I’m planning to get one just to get the free iPhone apps…I don’t really want to get a real credit card just for iTunes, so will this still work for that purpose?
what will I do?
advice please!
thanks!

Hello what are the requirements to get a prepaid credit card mastercard what are the requirements and what ages are required to have this?

Same as with opening a normal bank account, 2 valid ID’s and the initial deposit amount. Not sure with the age limit though. I’m guessing as long as you can read and write?

Saw this on their site:

“At least one (1) primary ID or two (2) valid secondary IDs with your photo and signature.

For applicants who are minors (7-17 years old)

• Quitclaim/Waiver signed by the parent or guardian
• Valid IDs of the legal guardian and the minor (passport/school ID)”
