Alas! I’ve transferred to a new web host again. The search for a good website hosting company proves to be illusive. The previous 45USD/month un-managed Windows™ VPS (Virtual Private Server) failed miserably. It was the typically really good for the first few weeks, then gets progressively worse type of deal. I guess these types of hosts just oversell their servers to squeeze out as much profit as they can… which never bodes well for their clients.
We transferred to a cheaper VPS with similar specs. Now we’re paying 30USD/month, though I have my reservations. If this still doesn’t cut it I’ll seriously be considering Media Temple, or some other top tier hosting company. I guess you really get what you pay for; bargain deals can only get you so far.
In the event that I do transfer web hosts again in the coming months I’ll definitely be getting a managed VPS or reseller account. Something with cPanel with WHM. The financial savings of getting cheaper, unmanaged plans isn’t proportional to the time needed to setup and maintain them especially if you’re like me who is not well verse with server administration.
To those of you who are serious with your sites, go with a serious hosting company. The few dollars you’ll save on cheaper hosts isn’t worth it. Trust me… I’m learning the hard way.
