When Yz was 2 years old, she almost drowned in the kiddie pool. My grandmother brought her to the pool and let her play in the water. While she was playing she slid and dipped her face in the water. My grandmother was watching at the time and was unaware that she was unable to stand up straight… and was already drowning! Fortunately the lifeguard quickly picked her up. My grandmother got bad at the lifeguard and ask why’d he got Yz from the pool. The lifeguard replied “ma’am nalulunod na po.” (ma’am she’s already drowning)
Since then she was afraid to get back into the water. Thankfully after persuading her to play with me in the pool, she finally got the courage to play in the water again and actually take swimming lessons. This time around I bought her floaters and go with her to the pool (as often as I can) to reassure her that I will be there and that I will prevent her from drowning.
Our birthday is coming up, and when i asked Yz what she wanted for a present she told me “green goggles”… quite specific for her age. So we went to the Speedo Boutique and bought her a pair of goggles and a kick board.
I’ve been swimming almost everyday too since Yz started her swimming lessons. I already incorporated it into my weekly routine. I already notice the benefits of my new swimming regimen. Better cardio, lean legs, and a nice light tan
. I find it to be a great workout especially during these summer days where days are hot and humid, and lifting weights or running just becomes a chore due to the heat.
I hope Yz picks up swimming and make it a habit to swim. I am starting to make it a habit and am benefiting a great deal from it; both physically and mentally. Ofcourse it would be great too if she picks up running so that I’ll have a running partner in the near future.
