Voters Education Seminar

PPCRV Voters Education Seminar

PPCRV Voters Education Seminar

We went to the PPCRV (Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting) Voters Education Seminar earlier this evening at Shangri-La Mall. They gave us a mock copy of the ballot which contained the list of national candidates for President, Vice President, Senators and Party Lists. You can sit down and practice shading the ballot, after which they show you a real ballot which you get to touch, so you know how it actually looks and feels. Their mock ballot was roughly an exact copy of the real ballot but with thinner paper, (we can’t complain about it since they are doing this civil service for free). The real ballot had thicker paper like Oslo paper or cartolina paper.

One thing I’d like to note is that the text on the ballot was printed in ample font size. I really have very poor eyesight but I was still able to read it clearly. This is a good thing for people who have poor eyesight, especially the elderly.

Then you can get a go at inserting a test ballot in the PCOS (Precinct Count Optical Scan) machine while a volunteer explains to you how the machine works and how to properly operate it. The whole voting process took us less than 5 minutes. Most of the time spent was in reading through the ballot and checking to see the candidate’s names.

If you want to know more about PPCRV or want to help them out, feel free to check out their website: http://www.ppcrv.org. I’m not really into the religion thing but I applaud them in their initiative to educate the public on the voting process… for free!
