The internet has seen phenomenal growth over the years, which in-turn placed a high demand on connectivity on a global scale. This has given rise to some top tier companies in the networking market such as Cisco, 3com, and Juniper to name a few. There is a big chance that while I am writing this article my connection is being processed by one of these manufacturers servers and/or routers.
Building networks for either personal or commercial use has been easier and much more affordable now a days. Top tiers hardware like Cisco routers or 3com modems are readily available in retails stores and in online shops. There is also a plethora of used and refurbished parts for sale online you can choose from.
I personally have a preference for refurbished networking hardware such as routers, since I don’t have a need for scrupulous network security. I can afford to buy older and outdated devices because of it. Not a lot of people know that you can extend the lifetime of refurbished hardware but updating the firmware if there are any, hence keeping your hardware updated to a certain extent. However advancements in hardware is also fast, and firmware updates can only get you so far. For commercial applications newer models are proffered; the more pertinent information on the servers behind these networking hardware, the greater emphasis is placed on reliability and security.
