I finally decided (a euphamism for: summed up the caurage to go to a dentist) to get my 3rd molar on the upper right corner of my jaw extracted. The tooth was facing my cheek and often causes discomfort when chewing.
After visiting 3 dental clinics with an “Open, Please come in” sign without a dentist on duty, I finally got lucky on the 4th dental clinic. Fortunately for me the attending physician new what she was doing and proceeded on to do my tooth extraction.
I have an unusual low tolerance for dental pain and dentists in general; which I trace back to my childhood days. My mother had most of my milk teeth removed, and the process was barbaric! They used big ass needles when applying the anesthetic which didn’t really worked. So when the tooth gets ripped out literally with a pair of pliers, I could feel all the pain rushing from my jaw to my brain.
To my pleasant surprise, dental technology has grown leeps and bounds since I was a kid. Now they take a more humane approach to things. They use a certain kind of paste which they apply to your gum’s to make it numb before applying the anesthetic, the needles they use now are so small you barely feel it, and the anesthetic they use is so strong it makes half of your jaw numb!
I still have another molar I need extracted. This will be a much more tedious task to the privous 2 I had extracted since it is compacted. They say they’ll need to remove a small part of my gums and chip off a part of my jaw to remove it… which scared the shit out of me, but it has to be done one way or another. So I’ll be going back next week to undergo the proceedure; hence more spending and pain
