100USD blogging challenge

I’ve been looking for ways to generate extra income in my spare time. With so many opportunities online like these to name a few:

  • Pay-To sites (e.g. Pay-To-click, Pay-To-Surf, Pay-To-Read)
  • participation based revenue on community sites
  • affiliate marketing sites
  • selling ad spots on your site (e.g. adbrite, adsense, Yahoo! Publisher Network)
  • online marketing (selling goods/services online)
  • blogging
  • online BPO (Business Process Outsourcing)

It’s hard to know which actually works for you and more importantly what actually pays. I personally make a living online as a programmer for foreign clients which makes me fall under the BPO category; but I still want to maximize my time and capacity to earn as a fail safe. As experience has taught me, job security is a thing of the past. Contract or no contract you can easily lose your primary source of income at any given time; So I err on the side of caution and also try to have back plans just in case.

In the past week, I’ve got into blogging as a form of income of sorts. I started my online journal back in 2000 during my freshman year in college, and I only got around to taking it seriously this past month. Among all the possible money making endeavors I sited above I think blogging would be the most fruitful one for me to try out next. It’s relatively easy to make spare change if you know which circles to run around in, and in the unlikely event that I don’t make a profit out of it I’ll still end up broadening my vocabulary and learning new things in the process. Since the nature of blogging for a profit is writing articles, one must be articulate and savvy enough to meet the writing objectives and retain your reader’s interest which is a huge challenge in its self already.

With that said I’m setting a goal for myself to try and earn a stable income from blogging; The goal is to earn a minimum of 100USD per month fro writing articles alone, exculing ad/sale revenues. I know several people who make a living out of blogging, and my hope is to someday reach that level so I can add writing to my skill set and blogging as a fall-back source of income.
